Library System Presidents and Directors Chart New Course for Illinois Libraries
The Illinois Library System Presidents and Directors met in Decatur, Friday February 19th to discuss: the current status of system finances and library funding, the status of the NSLS/DLS merger discussions, restructuring efforts, consolidation and new sustainability service models.
Shawnee Deliveries During Inclement Weather
On Thursday (1/7/10) a Shawnee Library System delivery van overturned as a result of poor road conditions. Thankfully there were no injuries. For the safety of our drivers, Shawnee delivery routes were modified Thursday.

Public Library District Handbook
Thanks to the Lewis and Clark Library System for authoring, updating and sharing the newly revised Public Library District Handbook. The handbook was created to assist Librarians and Boards of Trustees who are considering becoming a public library district and for those who have just became a public library district.
New FOIA and Open Meetings Act Requirements
All public library directors need to be aware of revisions to the Freedom of Information Act and Open Meetings Act requirements that are slated to take effect in January 2010. Attorney Philip Lenzini has authored an article that was published in the December 2009 issue of the ILA Reporter and information is also available on WebJunction Illinois in the Administrative Ready Reference section.
Wi-Fi Libraries in Southern Illinois
Take a look at all the libraries in the Shawnee Library System that now have free public Wi-Fi at their library. Libraries that offer free access to the Internet from their libraries offer an invaluable resource to their communities.
